Matt and Mark Hughes were born on October 13th, 1973 about 5 minutes apart. Matt was born first, but that was only because (in his words) Mark "kicked him out." Matt has always admitted that his brother is the stronger of the two and, when they fought, Mark would "throw him around like a rag doll." |
Mark no longer fights or trains for MMA. He trained with Matt for years at the Miletich camp, as he began to create a name for himself in the Middleweight (185 lb) Division. Mark made it all the way to the UFC and won his debut fight at UFC 28 against Alex Stiebling. After that fight, however, he decided that it just wasn't for him and he went back to his family, the farm and his construction company (Hughes Construction). Mark currently lives on the same family farm that he grew up on, just outside Hillsboro, IL, with his wife, Emily, and his sons, Marshall and Griffin. Rumor has it that, to this day, people around Hillsboro would still rather fight Matt than Mark.
