Default Former UFC Fighter James McSweeney Stops Armed Robbery in Las Vegas

Aug 16, 2012 - Another day, another MMA fighter stops a crime.

Less than two months after UFC middleweight Nick Ring helped Calgary police apprehend a group of muggers, former UFC fighter James McSweeney halted an armed robbery in Las Vegas.

According to a report on The UG, McSweeney took down a knife-wielding robber at a convenience store Wednesday night.

Here's a description of the incident, courtesy of the Web site:
Quote:
"Two men were arguing loudly inside the store near the door. When the female clerk went over to ask them to take it outside, one pulled a knife and directed her back to the register. The second man took position near the door. The man with the knife started grabbing cash out of the register.

James grabbed the knife wielder's wrist, put his hand on his shoulder and swept him face first to the floor, stunning him. James knelt put one knee in the middle of the man's back and immobilized the knife hand by trapping it in the crook of his other other knee. The second thief seeing his partner down and trapped, bolted for the door. No one was injured, other than some minor scrapes on the face of the would be thief."
No one was injured during the failed attack.

The 31-year-old McSweeney (10-9), a former security guard in his native England, is 6-3 since getting released from the UFC in October 2010. He is currently enjoying a four-fight winning streak.

There goes loyalty right out the door! Seriously, I'm glad no one was hurt other than the one thief who was caught. Always happy to see the good guy prevail.
