As mentioned in the column, the Dog issue and the polygamy issue were both started by the Democrats. The Republicans were defending/counterattacking. The question should be: "Why is an incumbent president running on side issues rather than a record of accomplishment and economic success? Answer: We all know the answer. He doesn't have a record to run on.

this is true ... don't start it if you can't finish it i guess .. .and to ptm's point, you are right ... talk about the important issues ... both sides love to throw mud and the R's got the better of this one ... LOL

The only "important issue" for a politician anymore is getting elected...or re-elected, and their end always justifies their means.
