The takedown attempt which caused Aldo to grab the fence looked like it was going to be a lot more of a definitive takedown than the one you referred to, which is why he felt the need to grab the cage in the first place. And you're also assuming that Aldo would have popped right back up just like he did later on. Mendes could have slammed Aldo and hurt him, or smacked him with something good right off the takedown. And if Aldo had got back up, he might not have gotten up by the cage, or it might have taken him longer and so the round might have come to an end before the KO happened, and so again the sequence of events would have been vastly different from how fight ended up. Numerous things could have happened. The irrefutable point is that an illegal action changed the course of the fight. I'm not saying that Aldo wouldn't have won anyway, I'm saying the way he won was bullsh*t.
