Default Happy Veteran's Day!

Dear Lord,

Today we honor our veterans, worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect their country.

We pray that you will bless them, Lord, for their unselfish service in the continual struggle to preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.

Bless them abundantly for the hardships they faced, for the sacrifices they made for their many different contributions to America’s victories over tyranny and oppression.

We respect them, we thank them, we honor them, we are proud of them, and we pray that you will watch over these special people and bless them with peace and happiness.

In Jesus’ name we pray; Amen.

In Europe we call it Armistice Day, or Remembrance Day...because the whole idea was that the commemoration happened on the same day that peace was asscertained after the first world war.

In Europe its a commemoration of the dead, not really a commemoration of living service personnel...so we wouldnt really wish anyone a happy Remembrance day, or a Happy Armistice day...since the focus is on the price of war, specifically honouring those who actually died.

England tends to observe nationally on the date itself, and also a second time on the closest sunday to the date. We observed two mins silence today....and we all wore our poppies...which is a sign of the fact that during the first world war, all the battles took place in French fields that as well as trenches were filled with poppies for some odd reason.

Our Collects are also slightly different and based on poetry

"They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."
