Default UFC 138: Cung Le is 'all for' an 'exciting fight' against Chris Leben in San Jose

Ohhhhh.....

I am all over this fight!!!

Former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Cung Le.

Name ring a bell? It may not, especially to some of the newer fans of mixed martial arts. Le (7-1) only averages one fight per year since 2007 and hasn't been seen since exacting revenge on Scott Smith at Strikeforce: "Fedor vs. Werdum" back in June 2010.

A lot has changed over the course of a year.

For starters, Strikeforce is now a part of the UFC machine, which means the San Shou striker now answers to a higher authority. But will he hide inside the contractual loopholes of the Showtime network? Or voluntarily jump into the shark-infested waters of Zuffa's stacked 185-pound division?

Le tells Fight Hype he's ready to give the fans what they want:

Quote:
"I would like to have a couple of fights in the UFC. I'm one of those guys that, if it's going to be an exciting fight and a good match-up for the fans to watch, let's get it on. I have nothing to prove, so I'm down to fight anyone if it's going to be exciting for the fans to watch. Right now, it's all up to the UFC. Ever since I heard that Cain [Velasquez] was going to be fighting in San Jose ... I would love to be on the same card. You know, on Yahoo! Sports, there is a Cung Le vs. [Chris] Leben thread if there was a cross promotion. Like I said, if the fans think it is an exciting fight for them to watch, I'm all for it."
After surrendering the 185-pound strap to pursue an acting career in Hollywood, Le returned to the fight game at the HP Pavilion in December 2009, where he saw his perfect record go up in smoke against "Hands of Steel" via third round technical miracle.

Smith would try to replicate that performance in their second encounter, but "Dragon Eyes" ended his night with a vicious body kick early in the second stanza.

Now he wants to test his might at UFC 138 in San Jose -- if the fans want to see it.

Well, how about it Maniacs? Le's asking ... but are you answering? Would a middleweight scrap against "The Crippler" on Nov. 19 interest you? Or not so much?

Opinions, please.

I'm not really interested in seeing someone fight that feels his place is more in the movies than MMA. I used to like Rampage and then after the movie it seems he's not his old self. Cung was exciting *shrug* but with one fight a year he doesn't seem to have the dedication to the sport.

Cung Le is NOT a UFC caliber fighter. No reason for this fight to happen, keep moving Leben up the UFC ranks. If they bring Cung Le in, might as well bring Frank Shamrock in for the rematch.

wow... I gotta admit.. I am a little shocked by the "not dedicated to the sport" comments....

He fought 3 times in 06, twice in 07, and one time each year since... and that is with time off..

It's not like he was working for a MMA promotion that has on average 1.5 (or more events a month (as the UFC this year).. but has almost the same amount of fighters in his weight class...

It's not like he hasn't been competing in "combat sports" (I hate that phrase.. but it's the best that fits)... 1995.. Wushu was his beginnings...

It's not like he hasn't been wrestling and grappling since 1990..

Cung has been doing.. in a cage.. what alot of us see on the silver screen... AND MAKING IT WORK...

Does it really matter that he took a year off to do a movie? Would we come down on Matt for doing a movie?

He was asked/auditioned for at least 6 movies.... who among us would turn that kind of money down...?

Not everyone is a Matt Hughes. Matt is Da Man... hands down... but to blast a guy that has done with Cung Le has done... wow...

I'm not really blasting him. He's got three movies that are coming out, plus the Tekken movie. So he's been making four movies. So he didn't take time off to make one movie. If he found success as an actor that's great! I wish him all the best with movies, and I hope he continues to find movie roles. However, if he spends the majority of his time being an actor then I feel, personally, that he is not dedicated to being a fighter. Was he at one point? Yes, he's had tons of kickboxing fights and 8 MMA fights. But if you give the majority of your time over to one thing (by choice), it's hard to be dedicated to another.

No one is comparing him to Matt or knocking him to the point where you should be offended. We are just voicing our opinions.
