NateR,

I wouldn't apologize for this measure at all. This is a basic anti-spam measure that most, if not all, other sites I go to have implemented. It is definitely a must for a vb site.

So that created a third group called Members Awaiting Email Validation. Well many of the spammers are managing to get through that process and post graphic porn images on the forums before they are caught. So now everyone who signs up from this point on with be put into a fourth group, Users Awaiting Moderation. Which is the next step after email validation.

This means that someone will have to review the details of their account and manually approve them before they will be allowed to post. I didn't want to do this with the forums just starting back up again, but the few spammers have ruined it for the rest of us.

Many people will get approved without having to do anything because I will recognize them from the previous forums; but it's just one more step in the registration process. So I just ask that new members please be patient, if you can't post right away. I make it a point to check the forums every few hours, so you shouldn't have to wait too long, but if it seems that too much time is passing, then email me at webmaster@matt-hughes.com and let me know who you are and your username so I can approve your account.
not surprised, it's par for the course

Its hard work...remember, in 2007 I got to see the master at work

the day began with a squark as the door to Nathans bedroom woke me up, followed by a pad, pad, pad as he walked across the floor followed by a whooooooosh hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm as he turned the computer on, FIRST THING he did EVERY day! then off to the loo and get dressed whilst it boots up.

I on the other hand...WAS on holiday.

That's kinda how my day starts, except that I usually leave my computer running. I get up, go to my office/study to check e-mail & the forums, then it's off to shower, shave, brush my teeth, etc.

I am an administrator at a forum mainly of interest to Mac users. So I know about the problems of spam and porn. I feel for you brother.

I was able to get someone to help screen new users so it isn't nearly such a problem. If it's possible perhaps you could ask someone you trust to help.

Really? I have set times on the internet...an hour for lunch, and then...all night after work

Take out the word "Computer" and you have a COMPLETELY different story...
