Sometimes he does do a lot of lay and pray but for what i remembered he was pretty active on the ground, not only that very active in trying to avoid Pettis ground attack.

i don't think he lnp'd in this fight ... i think everyone is just mad cuz pettis should have had a title shot, didn't get it and now has to work his way back for one ... guida will never be a champ, but he will stop a bunch of guys from getting shots .. LOL

I think a lot of his activeness was due to Pettis' activeness from the bottom. We'll see in his next fight.

Looked to me like he stayed busy! As for the folks that are mad at him its probably cause the flashy fighter lost. But this is MMA not flashy fancy pretend fighting. Whatever works is whats supposed to be important!

Great article, I was planning to post it here, but glad to see somebody's beat me to it.
Duke Roufus is talking to Ariel Helwani right now on the MMA Hour about it. He's making no excuses & just sounds really bummed (another of his boys, Danny Downes, also lost that night). EDIT: "I knew going into this that the only way he had a chance against Pettis was to make it a grind & he did what he had to do to win the fight." He also then went on to say it's a little tough because it's not his style of fighting & he prefers to coach fan-favorite/finish-oriented fighters.

So why is GSP the exception Why does he get so much crap for this? Well back to the subject, I think Pettis inflicted the most damage from his back. Guida landed some nice GNP but for the most part he was just smothering him. But good for Guida he is a beast and I think he deserved his title shot.

Lame... Clay is a HUGE fan favorite... win or lose... And anyone that says that Clay doesn't try to finish ANY fight he is in.. needs to put down the pipe.
