Default NY Senate Votes 42-18 in Favor of UFC fights

42-18 is a pretty big win for the UFC:

New York Senate Allows People To Start Punching Each Other For Money

America’s most passive aggressive state decided to take its rampant violence off of the streets and into an octagon by allowing the Ultimate Fighting Championship to hold events in the Big Apple.

“I think it’s time to take this sport out of the shadows and into the professional arena,” said Sen. Eric Adams, a Brooklyn Democrat who considers major Las Vegas venues “the shadows.”

So get excited, New York. No more driving to New Jersey in order to watch somebody get a concussion.

Oh, this is GREAT news! Thanks, rockdawg, I totally missed it when you posted this.

Vermont is hopeless, I'll have to start calling it Varmint. Other than that, isn't there just one more state that hasn't sanctioned MMA? Is it SC???

This list is from 2008, so I'm assuming some of these are no longer ture:

-Maine: Big shock here.

-Maryland: Hopefully not for long.

-Nebraska: While not exactly illegal, it’s left up to the communities/counties – and many prosecute for assault or promoting assault.

-New York: This just doesn’t make any sense.

-North Carolina: Possible change in the works.

-South Carolina: Too worried someone might knock their two teeth out.

-Tennessee: Heavy lobbying to make it legal.

-West Virginia: Write your congressman.

EDIT: Turns out I shoulda just started with Wikipedia:

Quote:
According to the Associations of Boxing Commissions, professional MMA competitions are allowed in most states. However, relevant legislation is pending within the following states where it is currently illegal: Connecticut (except on Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Indian Reservations), New York, and Vermont. Alaska and Wyoming have no boxing or athletic commissions. West Virginia became the 45th state to regulate mixed martial arts on March 24, 2011.

The UFC came to Charlotte, NC last year in March. The bf took me for my birthday. I'm not sure about the other states though.

Connecticut is it! I thought there were just 3 to go before NY voted.

The UFC will just have to give up on Varmint.
