Why is Muhommed Ali called the "GOAT"? Does this stand for something?

I think Ali was over rated but AS has earned his rep. as a very skilled successful fighter! AS followed the same rules as everybody else! Ali I think got by with stuff other boxers didn't. Like holding the back of the head for example!

I would wholeheartedly disagree with this. I think a man's character and sense of honor needs to be considered first, before we start to talk about accomplishments and talent.

Who we are is far more important that what we do.

Who we are IS far more important when it comes to things like distinguishing character but if we're looking for the greatest lumberjack of all time we should judge them on criteria that are related to being a lumberjack. The same for a baseball player, accountant or mechanic, etc.

If I'm going in for heart surgery I want the most skilled person at that job. I'd rather be operated on by a douchbag with skill then a "great guy" who barely passed his medical boards.

I think it is difficult to argue against Anderson being called the greatest.

Its a big tag but he must be closer than anyone else. Hughes is up there for sure.

What I don't understand is how character would suddenly drop AS out of the running.

From what I see he is a pretty honourable guy in and out of the ring. Even the way he treated Chael after such provacation is admirable.
