Default Spike gets 12 Prelims for 2011

Awesome! I'll bet the prelims are really driving sales.

Spike gets 12 UFC prelims for 2011

By Sergio Non, USA TODAY

A dozen preliminary cards from the Ultimate Fighting Championship will appear on Spike TV this year.

Spike will carry 12 one-hour shows before mixed martial arts pay-per-views in 2011, starting with two prelim fights before UFC 126 on Feb. 5, the network announced Monday. Spike has been airing live prelims from UFC cards since 2009.

The Feb. 5 live broadcast on Spike will feature Michihiro Omigawa vs. Chad Mendes and Donald "The Cowboy" Cerrone vs. Paul Kelly. Omigawa-Mendes stands out as a particularly strong fight for a prelim show, given that they're Nos. 6 and 12 in the USA TODAY/SB Nation consensus rankings for featherweights.

It will be Omigawa's first fight at 145 pounds in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, after a successful run in Japan that saw him go 8-1-1 over the last two years since dropping to featherweight.

He had two UFC fights at lightweight in 2007. Omigawa lost both before returning to his native country and moving down a weight class.

Sometimes the prelims are better than the pay per views.

I agree. The prelims usually have the guys that are hungriest for the win and they end up putting on quite a show.
