Meditation for Epiphany One

GOD our Father, your gift of water brings life and freshness to the Earth, in Baptism it is a sign of the washing away of our sins and the gift of Life Eternal

GOD of the covernant, you anointed your Beloved Son with the power of the Holy Spirit to be light for the nations and release for captives, Grant that we who are born again of water and the Spirit may proclaim with our lips the good news of his peace and show forth in our lives the victory of his justice. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ, your Word made flesh who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit in the splendour of eternal light. GOD forever and ever.

Jesus calls us out of the darkness into his marvellous light. Washed clean by the waters of Baptism let us pray that we may live the life to which he has called us. Lord Jesus Christ, in you the Father makes us and all things new. Tranform the poverty of our nature by the riches of your grace and in the renewal of our lives make known your heavenly Glory.

Hail to the lords anointed
Great Davids Greater Son
hail in the time appointed
his reign on earth begun
he comes to break oppression
to set the captive free
to take away transgression
and rule in equity

he comes with succour speedy
to those who suffer wrong
to help the poor and needy
to bid the weak be strong
to give them songs for signing
their darkness turn to light
whose souls condemned and dying
were precious in his sight

he shall come down like showers
upon the fruitful earth
with love, joy, hope, like flowers
spring in his path to birth
before him on the mountains
shall peace the herald go
and righteousness in fountains
from hill to valley flow

Arabias Desert Rangers
to him shall bow the knee
the ethiopian strangers
his glory come to see
with offerings of devotion
ships from the isles shall meet
to poor the wealth of ocean
in tribute at his feet

kings shall fall down before him
and gold and incence bring
all nations shall adore him
his praise all people sing
to him shall prayer inceasing
and daily vows ascend
his kingdom still increasing
a kingdom without end

over every foe victorious
he on his throne shall rest
from age to age more glorious
all blessing and all blest
the tide of time shall never
his covernant remove
his name shall stand forever
his changeless name of love.

Lord of all time and eternity you have opened the heavens and revealed yourself as Father in the Baptism of Jesus your Beloved Son, by the power of your spirit complete the heavenly work of our rebirth through the waters of the new creation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Brightest and best of the sons of the morning
darwn on our darkness and lend us thine aid
star of the East, the horizon adorning
guide where our infant redeemer is laid

cold on his cradle the dew drops are shining
low lies his head with the beasts of the stall
angels adore him in slumber reclining
maker and monarch and saviour of all

say shall we yield him in costly devotion
odours of Edom and offerings divine
gems of the mountain and pearls of the ocean
myrrh from the forest or gold from the mine

Vaily we offer each ample oblation
vainly with gifts would his favour secure
richer by far is the hearts adoration
dearer to GOD are the prayers of the poor.
