"and you will hear of wars, and rumours of wars, all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet."
Across the Commonwealth we remember the war dead today. We usually do this by having two mins national silence at 11am on the day itself, and the closest Sunday also. We buy and wear paper poppies sold to us by the Royal Legion and the likes to raise money by donations for wounded soldiers and the likes. On Sunday there is a State Ceremony at the National Whitehall Cenotaph. These Poppies are worn because the battle fields in France where most of the fighting in the First Great War took place are, and were indeed at the time, full of poppies. Our Government Leaders went out to talk trade with China this past week, and refused to take their poppies off. China doesnt use the Poppy or Armistace Day to celebrate the war dead...and mistakenly thought the British were wearing Poppies to signify their victories in the Two Opium Wars at the end of the 1800s |

In Flanders Fields In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. -- Lt. Col. John Alexander McCrae, M.D. (November 30, 1872 - January 28, 1918)

Silent So Silent Now Now The Guns Have Stopped I Have Survived All I Who Knew I Would Not But Now You Are Not Here I Shall Go Home Alone And Must Try To Live Life As Before And Hide My Grief For You My Dearest Friend Who Should Be With Me Now Not Cold To Soon And In Thy Grave Alone |
