Totally agree, PTM. He's not getting good advice, he's surrounded by toadies, apparently.

About 5 seconds into the fight I called for a low single from Couture, and low and behold, Randy drops in on Tony and took him down with a low single. Tough to defend when a person has had little or no wrestling experience. It literally one of the first takedowns that is taught in wrestling. The first is the double leg, then a single leg/low single leg, and then the high crotch. That is why wrestlers wrestle, and boxers box. It just shows how green Tony is, and I don't think Tony threw the fight, but I do think he fought for a pay check, he got into the Octagon and got paid for his half a round. Dana wanted to prove a point, and I think it was a foolish point because it didn't hold a whole lot of entertainment value to me. I was foolish to even ponder Tony being able to catch Couture. I hope Couture never wears the briefs again, that just looked really weird. Fight of the night was the Davis/Diaz fight. Diaz is a tough fighter and just battles. Davis, was certainly outclassed and his boxing which was supposed to be his strong suit looked really sloppy, especially after he got cut. Gray Meynard, did what he had to do. He took the fight away from Florian. Florian should have prepared better, simply as that, sure Meynard is a takedown artist but Florian should have trained his ass off to keep the fight standing up. Florian is a good fighter, but he will never be on top of the division, because he can't outstrike BJ, he can't out box guys like Edgar, and he can't stop the takedown from guys like Meynard. My hat is off to Edgar, he took the fight to BJ won every round, and dominated the fight at in every aspect. It looked like BJ quit half way through round 3, but honestly it could simply be that BJ refuses to press, stays solid in his game plan, and doesn't panic, but it didn't look like he had any juice in his legs, he couldn't hold Edgar down when he got the take down, and he was late with his punches. Edgar was smooth, effecient, and tactical, but it didn't seem like one of his punches actually hurt BJ, he landed a couple of nice elbows while in the top position, but at no point was BJ in trouble of having the fight stopped. Grey Menyard has the skill set and style to take another fight from Edgar. BJ might have been bigger than Edgar, but he isn't the type to use strength and size in his game plan, he isn't a wrestler, he doesn't smoother his opponent in the top position, he was the perfect fight for Edgar. Menyard will out wrestle Edgar, and Menyard doesn't have to worry about being knocked out against Edgar, he can close the distance, and secure the take down. |
