Default Walter Reed Hospital

See, Matt...I am working on the pictures.

So here I am in Fairfax, VA for the fights doing another photography thing with Matt. This time we went to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington DC. Marc Fiore went as well. This was a luncheon meet and greet for wounded soldiers and their families. Evidently there are quite a few times when soldiers are at the hospital for long periods of time, like 18 months and more , for rehab and physical therapy and they can't always have their families stationed here with them. That means they are separated from their loved ones for a lot of time even after coming home from overseas wounded. It was a great event to be a part of. It is always a humbling experience to meet these guys and girls who have given so much for their country. Matt once again mentioned that he was awed by the attitude they have and their high spirits. He said it is always an "uplifting" experience for him. The people in charge of the event also gave a few laptops away which will come in handy for those who will use them to keep in touch with their family. I tried to get as many pictures as I could and I will post those as soon as I get them all downloaded to my photobucket acct and will put them here in this thread.

The clothing company "Ranger Up" was there handing out t-shirts which Matt signed.....and Marc when people would realize who he was and ask him. There was an MMA fighter there who is an Army MMA champion named Tim Kennedy. We'll be seeing more of him soon I think. I got photos of him as well. And I *finally* got a picture of me with Matt, one with Marc, and one with Tim Kennedy.

Let me tell ya'll, riding in the car with Matt and Marc is ummmm....interesting. They feed off of each other with the jokes and greatly enjoy themselves. I had a blast of course. At one point Matt had his daughter on the phone and he was trying to get her to sing "Jesus Loves Me" for us on speaker. It was very cute. She wouldn't sing but Matt sang the first line to try and get her started. There was a multitude of topics discussed, anything from guns and cooking pheasant to bragging on our children.

I want to give a shout out to LTC Kelly Crigger who drove us there and helped set this up. Pictures to follow soon.....

Edited to add: I want to say how cool it was for the UWC to give free tickets to the soldiers to go to the fights. They had a bus that they loaded up to drive them there and back. They also were responsible for Matt being able to go to the hospital to do the visit there. It is always great when companies do things like this. I am proud to be the daughter of a Vietnam Vet and it's great to see the difference in how the soldiers are treated today versus how my dad and his fellow vets were treated when they returned home. People will stop us on the street when he wears his Purple Heart cap or his Vietnam Vet cap and shake his hand and say "thank you for your service." It brings tears to my eyes at times because it means so much to him.
