I wrote to him (amoungst others) in various States awaiting Execution. I stopped writing to him because his sentance got downgraded and he left Death Row. The last guy I used to write to from that bunch was at San Quentin...but we lost touch when the building had to be refurbished...or something...I guess they moved the prisoners for a bit to repair damage to the building, I think through age (I cant remember it was some years ago now) and either my letters stopped getting through, or else he was forbidden to reply...or something like that. (and no he didnt get executed, because I would have been notified in that case LOL...to the best of my knowledge he is still alive) A shame...he was a nice guy...but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he was guilty of whatever he did....he sent me his picture also...but I'm not completely sure where thats gone, it will be stuck up on my wall somewhere I would imagine, or filed away with his letters
The idea was put to me by a friend that I should try some befriending work to US convicts on death row, they hoped it would curb my enthuism for an English Penal Reform which would bring back the death sentance to England. They banked on my Friendship with these convicts to overcome my morality I suppose. Sure, I became friends with a few and we wrote back and forth for a while...but I've never changed my view.
Just because I know...and dare I say, became friends with one...doesnt mean I suddenly believe that he should be set free and the death penalty abolished
