Talking BJ Penn releases new book

Its imaginatively entitled "why I fight"

But Dana White has not reacted well to the book. He says infact...Dana White even approached Mr Penns lawyers claiming that the inside story on the UFC is "90 percent lies"

Penn is blaming his co-author...and guess who the co-author is blaming thats right...BJ Penn

Has anyone bought or read the book and would like to share their opinion

I just bought the ebook version (Kindle format). I'll start this afternoon, and will post a comment when I finish.

I read Griffin's book on the Kindle. I really enjoyed that one.

I saw Penn's interview on HDNet last night. Got me interested.

But I have to get over this hangover before I start.

Who is going to buy it now knowing that it's a book of lies? He'll need a book of miracles to sell them now

Here is an excerpt from the book courtesy of Bloodyelbow.com

Quote:
K-1 was offering me $187,500 per fight - five times what the UFC was offering - and I was still willing to stay with them for one-third of that amount. This was when the relationship took a turn for the worse, and my view of White changed drastically. From that point on, I knew when it came to money, we couldn't trust him to treat us right. Did I like him at the dinner table? Sure. But at the negotiating table? Not at all. The pressure to perform and safeguard other people's money had changed him, even though he was constantly bragging to anyone willing to listen about how 'big this thing was going to be.' Things between us would never be the same.

When it was finally official I was going to fight in Japan, White called me up and told me his true feelings. 'You mother****er! You're ****ing done! You'll never fight in the UFC again! You're finished. You're scorched earth, mother****er. Scorched earth. Don't call me crying saying you want to come back because you're ****ing done!' And on and on and on, like a true professional - even going so far as to tell me I would never see my face again in a UFC video, promotion, or anything else. He also planned on removing my fight with Hughes from the UFC 46 DVD so no one would even know who I was. 'It doesn't have to be this way,' I told him. 'You know it wouldn't take that much to make this work.' But he just kept yelling.

This war of words should be interesting to see play out.

Dana White says its all lies, but refuses to point out ANY particulars lol.

BJ basically tells the truth in the book,
he told about how Dana called him a POS when he left the UFC,
and how tough Dana can be to work with, etc... Even from a fan perspective you can see that.

The odds Dana is a wonderful person in a boss aspect and a delight to work with for everybody?
Slim to none.

okay...so that explains why Dana White doesnt like it.

Why shouldnt Penn spill the beans...I suppose you could argue he should leave the company before dishing the dirty on their contract dealings and disputes...but in the same vein...its what people want to know isnt it....people have garnered more then just an interesting in the Sport, they want to know about the company that runs a large proportion of it.

just how exactly does the matchmaker decide who fights who? just what exactly does the management do if you break your contract? how exactly do they bargain, sometimes extremely lopsided prices for fights.

I might actually have to buy this book
