I'm not sure if that was actually Matt and Trey's call, or if it was Comedy Central's.

I had heard last night that a few years back when they had done a Muhammed skit, Comedy Central wouldn't air it so they did one of Comedy Central scensoring them.

The only way to win this fight is to allow satire/commentary/art/etc. that some people may find objectionable. We don't have to look at it, we don't have to buy it, but we sure as heck don't want to ban it. That's the beauty of our freedoms, I just try to remind myself of that when I see artwork or comedy that I find really offensive.
That's what kills me about these bleepedy bleeps, the fact they are taking full advantage of these freedoms while at the same time threatening others who are attempting to do the same. If they want to gag others they should be gagged also. Heck, it wouldn't take much; just tear off a strip from their frock and use that.

They are of the devil and doing his work! This line just popped into my head (forgive me Elvis), "You're the devil in disguise. Oh, yes you are....Devil in disguise".

You're right, we are caught between a rock and a hard place! I ask myself which is more precious, my constitutional freedoms or my personal security? Sometimes I'm not sure. But right now I'm not ready to give up any.

This is why it's so hard to take any sort of Liberal stance on Islam seriously.
Can you show me where in the media Christianity is vilified? If it is rampant all over the place, I'm sure you'll have no problem supplying plenty of information on it. Also I'd appreciate the numerous links you can supply where the media portrays Islam as simply misunderstood by racist, xenophobic Americans.

Good questions, these Muslims seem to be of the extreme fanatical kind. I wish the Christian abortion doctor killer would have taken it with a grain of salt. Either way, there is no right in my mind in either of the groups doings.

I love South Park. I believe the ones being defended aren't the fundamentalist terrorists. The ones plotting to terrorize Americans deserve punishment based on their criminal terroristic activities. I hope our country goes after them. The defended ones are the ones who don't participate in the hatred of the west. I bet if everyone lumped all Christians together as evil fanatical terrorists, you wouldn't be happy with that when it's only a small portion of those that blemish the name of Christianity, and you would be right to be angry with them. The same goes with you lumping all Muslims under the fanatical terrorist blanket.

Sure there are some freak radicals out there who call themselves Christians, but our book doesnt endorse violence under the new covenant. You guys make me sick.
I don't see anyone on this forum defending criminal terrorist Muslims here on this forum. I haven't read the Koran, though I am interested in reading it to help me better understand it. Where did you get your copy of the Koran? I used to browse through the one left at work but it was written in Arabic so I got absolutely nothing out of it unless others would translate some of it for me.

Your Good Book shows your God murdering and killing untold millions of people, innocents included. It also shows people killing others because of your God's orders. Drowning everyone and every living creature is supposed to be a good thing?

If you're going to call me out, at least be a big boy about it and call me out with my name. No need to try and do it on the sly. I don't feel the need to Join Islam or Christianity because I don't really desire joining any fear based religions which I have no belief in. I'm not trying to or will defend any of these people for their actions as I find them to be indefensible. Those making thinly veiled death threats should be investigated and if found guilty, punished.

There are followers of Islam and Christianity that don't deserve the fundamentalist terrorist tag. Conversely, there are those who do.

I would think that they took the death threats from all of the fundamental terrorist Muslims seriously. I can separate those of the Islamic faith into at least two groups, peaceful ones and fundamental terrorists. It's too bad you lump them all together.

Again, you are labeling an entire group of people as murderers, hate-mongering and false-prophet-following. You see to hold some of the same qualities as those you so despise. Not the best role model if you ask me, not that you are asking me.

When I read about the article yesterday, I tried going to the site but it wasn't open. I then got to it through a cached version on google. I read through some of their forums and saw a mixture of folks on there ranging from non-believers to moderates to extreme fanatics in both male and female members. I may try to participate in some of the threads there in the near future and prod around some. I wonder how far I will get before I am banned?

I'll gladly ask questions of them from input I receive through here and fill everyone in if they wish.

Anybody who is connected to mainstream American media can understand Nate's point.

Sources and link are not really required.

Buzzard, are you asking for vilification of Christians, Christianity or Christ (or all three?)? Just off the top of my head, I can write some instances. If you are seriously interested, I can do some internet research and come up with examples by the dozens or hundreds. As far as vilifying Christ, it is quite common in the media (I define media here as newspapers, films, art, etc.). Don't you recall the NEA tax-payer funded "Piss Christ" piece of "art" in which a crucifix was pictured immersed in urine? Don't you recall the cartoon in which a naked Jesus was pictured on the cross with an erection? How about the "art" of the Virgin Mary made out of Elephant Dung and cut-out pornographic pictures of female genitalia? Don't you remember the film, The Last Temptation of Christ? Jesus was depicted as a voyeur, watching Mary Magdalene having sex. Didn't you see The DaVinci Code? Jesus supposedly married Mary Magdalene and fathered children by her. How about James Cameron's The Lost Tomb of Jesus, in which he tries to convince the viewer that he has found the tomb of Jesus and his family? You can peruse blogs of bloggers who have gone to homosexual parades and taken pictures of booths in which parade organizers sell sex toys in the shape of the Virgin Mary and Jesus on the Cross. The media report of the parade on the news that evening will only show a monogamous lesbian couple pushing a stroller. Within the past month I remember seeing a review of Law & Order: SVU in which Christians have been the murderer in 2 separate episodes just this season. Although the book is now almost 20 years old, Michael Medved, a Jew, in his book Hollywood vs. America spends a good chunk of the book showing, with numerous examples, how Hollywood vilifies Christians.

As far as the media showing Americans as racist, xenophobes towards Muslims, I can recall a story a couple years back where Dateline NBC arranged to have Muslims dressed in traditional Muslim dress go to NASCAR events with hidden cameras. They had a stereotypical view of NASCAR attendees as racists. They didn't get the footage they had hoped. The plan was exposed on the internet and subsequent hidden camera visits to future NASCAR events were nixed by NBC.

As I mentioned, Buzzard, this is off the top of my head. If you can honestly say that further information will persuade you, I will take the time and make an internet-style "term paper" for you.

'South Park' producers say network cut fear speech

By DAVID BAUDER, AP Television Writer David Bauder, Ap Television Writer Fri Apr 23, 4:10 am ET

NEW YORK Producers of "South Park" said Thursday that Comedy Central removed a speech about intimidation and fear from their show after a radical Muslim group warned that they could be killed for insulting the Prophet Muhammad.

It came during about 35 seconds of dialogue between the cartoon characters of Kyle, Jesus Christ and Santa Claus that was bleeped out.

"It wasn't some meta-joke on our part," producers Trey Parker and Matt Stone said. Comedy Central declined to comment.

Earlier this week, the radical group Revolution Muslim said on its website that "South Park" had insulted their prophet during last week's episode by depicting him in a bear costume.

The group said it wasn't threatening Parker and Stone, but it included a gruesome picture of Theo Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker killed by a Muslim extremist in 2004, and said the producers could meet the same fate. The website posted the addresses of Comedy Central's New York office and the California production studio where "South Park" is made.

Despite that, Parker and Stone included the Muhammad character in this week's episode. Muhammad appeared with his body obscured by a black box, since Muslims consider a physical representation of their prophet to be blasphemous. When the bear costume was removed, it was revealed to be Santa Claus.

Parker and Stone are known for waiting until the last minute to deliver episodes, often pulling all-nighters to get them done, and giving them the opportunity to address things in the news.

They said that in 14 years of making "South Park," which just had its 200th episode, they've never delivered one they couldn't stand behind.

"Kyle's customary final speech was about intimidation and fear," they said. "It didn't mention Muhammad at all but it got bleeped ... We'll be back next week with a whole new show about something completely different and we'll see what happens to it."

Besides the censored dialogue, only one inside joke in this week's episode could be interpreted as a reference to the Muslim group's warning.

During one scene, a mechanized Barbara Streisand robot is seen stomping through the town on a path of destruction. One voice is heard to say, "they've destroyed La Casa Bonita!"

"La Casa Bonita" is the name of Parker and Stone's production facility.

No need for that. Thanks for taking the time to write out what you did.

As for the "art" that you mentioned, I vaguely recall some of it and am against funding for that.

As far at TV shows go, I've seen numerous slants against those from the Middle East, China, Russia and other "villians du jour" as well as from both Christianity and Islam.

As for the movies mentioned, I have seen a few of them and wasn't too thrilled with any of them. It seems that every movie has/needs a controversial figure, but I don't see Christians being the target in most instances. I'm not saying there aren't more than I am aware of nor trying to downplay them, it's just that I haven't been exposed to that many which would make me think that the media is solely vilifying Christianity.

I don't think that anyone ever implied the "soley" part. You are creating an absolute in the argument that wasn't there. Absolutes are easy targets to disprove.

Nice move!
