I thought this needed its own thread,
with a lot of fighters (AS) acting like jerks these days. Or a lot of guys completely running their mouths before they fight I like to appreciate two guys who are respectful, compliment one another, do what they have to do and act how fighters should IMO. Plus, how often do you see a guy help another guy up mid fight? |

Great idea!!
I thought Matt was a CLASS ACT before, during and AFTER that fight. Renzo too. Both of them were gracious and kind and true sportsmen. Matt was on unfriendly turf there, but despite the boos he got at the weigh ins he still acted with the grace and class of a true champion.

A lot of fighters would do very well to look at the way Matt and Gracie acted during and after the fight, talk about aquiring and holding fan's. try that out
Anderson and Lesner, tell me how that work's for you!!! |

I absolutely agree that both fighters were totally respectful to each other and Matt's decision to help Renzo up was not only a showing of good sportsmanship but it was also the sign of total confidence and control by Hughes.
Props to Renzo for being totally respectful to Matt in the press and as always big props to Matt for another dominating performance we have been lucky enough as fans to get to witness you put on so many times over the years. |

In the Hughes and Gracie fight there were two pioneers of the sport of MMA going at it. Both men showed each other respect which should carry through the sport.
This isn't boxing, this is mixed martial arts, where martial arts carries a higher premium on respect for your opponent. I could have done without Hughes offering his hand during the actual match, but it was only a sign of repect and nothing else. Also during the post fight media conference Hughes was asked specifically about Silva and he refused to answer, he responded that he would only answer questions on his own fight. That is respect for the sport and his fellow fighters. |

Not all boxers disrespect each other, and LOTS of MMA fighters disrespect each other. Hyping the fight, or true rivalries where fighters talk trash is NOT always a bad thing either, but when two fighters show each other respect and go out and have a good fight that is also cool and great to see. |
