Madame Tussauds chooses UFC legend Chuck Liddell as MMA's first wax figurine

The legendary Madame Tussauds museum has chosen Ultimate Fighting Championship legend Chuck Liddell as the first mixed-martial-arts personality to be immortalized with a wax figurine, UFC officials today announced.

Madame Tussauds, which is based in London, England, features a Las Vegas branch at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino that will host the figurine.

Madame Tussauds officials will unveil Liddell's sculpture on May 28 at UFC Fan Expo 2010.

The ceremony, which coincides with UFC 114, takes place at 10:30 a.m. PT (local time) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

Liddell's sculpture, which costs approximately $300,000 to produce, will then be moved to the museum and put in a UFC Octagon and adorned with a UFC championship belt.

Liddell, 40, earned a UFC Hall of Fame induction in 2009 and currently serves as a coach on "The Ultimate Fighter 11." After sitting out the past year in what UFC president Dana White called a retirement, Liddell returns to the cage at UFC 115 in June. There, he's expected to fight fellow "TUF 11" coach Tito Ortiz or expected replacement coach Rich Franklin.

Choosing Liddell to represent all of MMA isn't much of a surprise. After all, Liddell's legendary light-heavyweight title run coincided with the sport's biggest growth spurt, and even today, "The Iceman" remains one of the most popular fighters in the sport.

Is his title run more impressive than that of Matt Hughes? I think not.....so it must be the mohawk.

I think it's cool. Chuck is the most popular figure in MMA I think. I mean he was the first to be covered by TMZ.

Well, it should look pretty good with all of the expierience making wax figures that Madame Tussauds has........Rashad Evans made Chuck look like a statue and he hasn't made any of those.
