But to address your point. MMA is a development of a long standing, pre existing culture of sports if you look at it from that point of view i suppose...therefore it is VERY relevent to be considered in its own right as something worth researching in its own right, and also, how its an offshoot of pre existing sports etc.

MMA is a sport. To study the "culture" of MMA you would really need to get behind the people that have elavated it from a sport to a culture..


And since I have at least 10 years on you.... in a setting of you and I... You don't know everything I know. (remember what I said about making yourself more important than you are... That was a great example.

But to address your point. Well I got a first in a Dissertation that was classed as "sports Ethnography" and lots of the people I researched who wrote about the study of athletes, just like Sam Sheridan does refer to themselves as "sports Ethnographers"

You can use a search engine all you want, but its given you an incredibly simplistic definition for the term. I can only tell you what I know from a year of academic study and good grades. Sorry if thats not good enough for you

You dont write books, but you know better then book writers on their subjects of expertize, you, presumably, dont have a university qualification in social sciences with a thesis into sports ethnography, but you know more then the academic. Your the no-it-all, not me.

I used a search engine to confirm my memory of the use of the word. I do have a volcabulary. I also find it easier to cut-n-paste while I am at work than investing that much time.

Maybe I didn't go to a 4 year school for social sciences.. but that doesn't mean much. I can think of 3 people right off the top of my head that influenced the entire world.. with little to no "real education".

Yes, of course those that studied prior to his emergence, and learned from what servicemen brought back from the war and from ancestors would still have developed into some of the oldest and most respected schools in our country, but I think as an entertainment sport, Bruce Lee's movies made a big impact to the average folk.

No I equate Sam Sheridan with the Ethnographers I used in my research. IMHO he is a Sports ethnographer, and I think the best one in terms of covering MMA

Its not hanging on my wall. I keep it in a special file given to me at School called "Record of Achievement" it was something all Schools implimented briefly...and then stopped doing. I guess it cost to much I dont know, but I still have mine. All my certificates and stuff are in their, and you know what, I am proud of them because I worked really hard to get them. You may not believe this, but when I was at Junior school they said that I would never be good enough to go to University, I was considered a slow developer and behind other people my age. Heck, they told me I was unlikely to get my GCSEs, then I was unlikely to get my A-Levels, then I was unlikely to get my Degree...and I did. I'm sorry if you didnt have the chance. But I dont see why I should be made to feel small because of it. It was a HUGE achievement for me to get their in the first place...my Family is full of high fliers...and I am the one whose still on the ground. I have a Sister four years Younger earning four times as much as me...because she got good grades in complex areas of study...so dont you tell me that my degrees and the likes arent worth anything...I am proud of what I achieved, considering the defecit from which I started...you can run me down all you like...I already told you that I didnt mean what I said to come across like you obviously interpreted it.

most everyone knows things that not everybody else knows.
that in part is what makes people interesting.
