That's actually how all polls are conducted, they take the results from a sample group (which would ideally be made up of a cross section of the population to represent all viewpoints) and extrapolate that across the entire nation. That's just the nature of polls. Over 1000 is actually a decent sample size. Anything under 100 would be meaningless.
