Default Newly Discovered Hebrew Writing on Pottery Shard Shatters Current Academic Theories

http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/...est=latestnews

Quote:

By decoding the inscription on a 3,000-year-old piece of pottery, an Israeli professor has concluded that parts of the bible were written hundreds of years earlier than suspected.

The pottery shard was discovered at excavations at Khirbet Qeiyafa near the Elah valley in Israel -- about 18 miles west of Jerusalem. Carbon-dating places it in the 10th century BC, making the shard about 1,000 years older than the Dead Sea scrolls.

Professor Gershon Galil of the University of Haifa deciphered the ancient writing, basing his interpretation on the use of verbs and content particular to the Hebrew language. It turned out to be "a social statement, relating to slaves, widows and orphans," Galil explained in a statement from the University.

The inscription is the earliest example of Hebrew writing found, which stands in opposition to the dating of the composition of the Bible in current research; prior to this discovery, it was not believed that the Bible or parts of it could have been written this long ago.

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, current theory holds that the Bible could not have been written before the 6th century B.C.E., because Hebrew writing did not exist until then.

English translation of the deciphered text:

1' you shall not do [it], but worship the [Lord].
2' Judge the sla[ve] and the wid[ow] / Judge the orph[an]
3' [and] the stranger. [Pl]ead for the infant / plead for the po[or and]
4' the widow. Rehabilitate [the poor] at the hands of the king.
5' Protect the po[or and] the slave / [supp]ort the stranger.

The Word was spoken a long time before it was ever written.

I have a theory that its not really supposed to be read, but only supposed to be spoken. I think if we all spoke Scripture rather then just read it things would be vastly different.

Its called The Word...NOT The Read afterall

The words that were on the potery kind of remind me of Proverbs Chp. 31

Proverbs 31
The Words of King Lemuel’s Mother
1 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him:
2 What, my son?
And what, son of my womb?
And what, son of my vows?
3 Do not give your strength to women,
Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel,
It is not for kings to drink wine,
Nor for princes intoxicating drink;
5 Lest they drink and forget the law,
And pervert the justice of all the afflicted.
6 Give strong drink to him who is perishing,
And wine to those who are bitter of heart.
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty,
And remember his misery no more.
8 Open your mouth for the speechless,
In the cause of all who are appointed to die.[a]
9 Open your mouth, judge righteously,
And plead the cause of the poor and needy.

It's always been my understanding that Hebrew was the original language that the whole world spoke before the Tower of Babel. Jewish scholars believe that Hebrew is what GOD used when He spoke the universe into existence.

Quote:
The twenty-two sacred letters are profound, primal spiritual forces. They are, in effect, the raw material of Creation. When God combined them into words, phrases, commands, they brought about Creation, translating His will into reality, as it were. (Rabbi Michael L. Munk, The Wisdom of the Hebrew Alphabet)
So a discovery like this is really no surprise to me, it's just another example of science finally catching up with GOD.

I wish I could speak Hebrew

So do you think Hebrew was the language of the Antedeluvian culture before the Flood? It makes sense...I mean presumably as Noahs family were the only survivors...it makes sense that whatever language they spoke had to have originated in a time before the deluge.
