This is very sad. Regardless if one is not Roman Catholic or not it does not take away from the fact this is a scary weird act..I am glad that crazy lady is behind bars and I feel sad that we cannot even worship nowdays without worrying about shootings, stabbings, and stalkers..

I believe that technically the "Halberd" is listed as the official weapon of the Vatican Guards.

The ceremonial ones atleast.

For the same reason someone would want to Assassinate any world leader. Firstly, he is actually head of State for a Government, Secondly, he tries to speak and make rules for the largest portion of the Christian Church.
