BLOG: No Fight for Lawler

Once again sorry about the late blog. Last week I was in California with Robbie, Pena, and Foster, hoping they would find a replacement so Robbie could fight. It didn't happen and I guess I'm just spoiled being with the UFC. From what I understand, Showtime really likes to stick their nose in Strikeforce's business and because of that I don't think that Strikeforce will be around for much longer; but enough with that.

Been some talk about Renzo and some people are wondering why I would fight him. I think he is a very formidable opponent and I would say he is the best of the Gracies. I don't think it would be fair to compare him to Royce. Renzo and I have some history as he is the last guy to beat Pat Miletich and I have beat a couple of his students. I beat Ricardo Almeda back in Abu Dhabi and I just got done beating Matt Serra. Both motivating reasons for us to fight each other. One thing I'll say about Renzo is that he is one of the nicest guys out there, but that won't stop me from keeping myself motivated and doing my job. It was great to get with Matt Pena last week and start working on some things. I already know what to stay away from on the ground.

Got another reminder of what our troops are going through in the Middle East. Definitely worth looking at to remind everyone to pray for our troops, especially with Christmas just a few days away:

Audra talked me into going to a movie called "The Blind Side." Had no idea what it was about and to be honest I just thought it was going to be a chick flick; but I think it was the best movie I've seen this year. I found it very motivating and I suggest everybody check it out.

Great blog , Matt. I forgot about the match with Ricardo. I have a buddy that trains Renzo's and have watched his schools Muay Thai competitors compete in our area. I'm always inpressed with the sportsmanship his students exhibit. I'm glad to hear that you like him. I agree that he is the best of his family.
That being said I have no doubt you'll win.

At the Carol Concert last night, the Priest got up to do his homily, and he had this big projector. He started asking people who their heros are and why.

People came up with all sorts of rich and famous people, and he had lots of slides he'd go through and say "what about them" or "what about them"

Then he stopped and asked if we wanted to know who his Heros were this year. Of course we all said "yes"

so he showed us this





Its a place called Wotten Basset. The town is in close proximity to Royal Airforce Base Lyneham. Its become well known because a lot of the war dead arrive back at that Base, and their course inadvertently goes through Wotten Basset town centre...its like the public centre of mourning for the war dead of Afghanistan/Iraq.

That blows about Robbie and Strikeforce letting down all his fans. I was going to buy a plane ticket to go see him fight but got called to go to DC that weekend. If that would not have happened I would have flow all the way across the US to see Robbie just to sit in a show that he was not in. Seems Strikeforce carved up the powerbase too much with Showtime and M-1 that they don't really run the promotion any more.

Ill have to check that movie out.

They are really ticking me off the way they have been keeping Robbie on the shelf. He's a star in that promotion and they're not treating him like one.

They know the UFC wants him, so it's like they are trying to keep him in limbo as long as possible because they know they are going to lose him to the UFC as soon as his contract is up.

For just about every blog Matt does, we get other sites linking to us and reporting Matt's words as news stories. This site was pretty quick in reporting Matt's blog and I'm only posting the link because I thought their choice of a title was pretty funny:

That is so shady. The worst part is if they treated him better, he might feel some layalty to SF. Do they compensate him for his time in a situation like last weekend?
