If Deigo Sanchez's busted lip, Marvin Eastman-like gash, broken nose, bloodied ear and overall bruised and battered face weren't enough evidence of B.J. Penn's dominance over him on Saturday night, today's FightMetric report on the fight solidifies just how little Sanchez was able to do. Check out the breakdown of the striking in last night's event: Penn outstruck Sanchez 150 to 8. Yes, you see that correctly, Sanchez landed 8 strikes throughout the entirety of the contest, while Penn landed nearly 60 power shots to the head. Penn's dominance wasn't just clear there; in the grappling side of things, Sanchez was credited with 27 separate takedown attempts, none of which were completed. Penn was able to avoid almost every attack from Sanchez while landing at least 6 power shots and at least 10 jabs in every round. It's simply astonishing to see those kind of numbers, but it just solidifies how far ahead of the pack B.J. is in the division. Wow, embarassing for Diego! I got this from mmatorch.com. Sorry I can't post links, but I'm sure y'all know where to get them! |

You have to give Diego some credit. He gave everything he had and he never quit.

I give credit to Sanchez for not being defeated earlier, and I Give him credit, because I recognise, that whilst I dislike BJ Penn, one cannot deny his pure skills...I do think Penn should have tried harder to finish...but he finishes so many fighters...he can be forgiven for not wanting to finish, in advocacy of avoiding the takedown, or for keeping his distance through striking...clearly he would have won had the bout gone to decision. That is quite enough credit. I dont take these fightstrike analysis to much to heart, they dont measure heart, they dont measure defence, they dont measure control...they simply measure strikes...well...you have to watch a fight to understand it, you cant just read a set of figures... although...gotta say, Diego Sanchez does come off embarrisingly poor on the striking front

wow, BJ landed 70% of his strikes and diego landed only.... 7% of his strikes
you would think BJ was fighting an amateur out there. and this was supposed to be the guy who would give BJ the most trouble in his division. amazing. who can beat BJ right now at 155? this guy truly has lived up to his nickname. THE PRODIGY! |
