Me.. I have to go with the Marines... I almost joined the Air Force... but punked out due to the first Iraqi war.. (my recruiting officer told me I wouldn't have to fight..well.. THAT was a lie)

I had 2 great grand fathers, 1 grandfather and 3 uncles serve...

It made them better men.. and the Marines just plain KICK ARSE!!!!

they didnt want me. Before I even asked. I was just walking past some Military tent at a Careers convention...I didnt even make eye contact, and the strange man behind the desk just shouted to get my attention, and then he says words to the effect of try the MOD because you dont have to pass basic for that I just ignored him.

Later...as in years later...I did apply to the MOD....they rejected me because the word "we" came up to many times in the section talking about teamwork or something

Why would I want to go into the Military anyway. I understand the psychology of what Basic Training is all about, I would resist that kinda attitude because I believe it does more harm then good in the long run.

I wouldnt mind going into the Civil Service, or the Ministry of Defence but those are wings of the Government...not wings of the Military...even if the MOD runs the Military. I'm more about Strategy and planning then execution to be honnest. Besides...even in the military you have to have a trade. You dont just appear...you need to have a specialism within the branch you are part of. Do I look like a Mechanic, or a Medic, or an electrician to you

They dont have Philosophers or Scribes anymore.

I'd would of liked to of joined the Navy for some reason and wished I would of. Not joining the military is still my biggest regret in life as I think it would of done me a world of good.

No I'm not scared...but I'm not sure they would take me if they knew I was on Anxiety medication...BEFORE enlisting....Being Anxious and being Frightened arent exactly the same...not in a clinical sense.

Plus...I'll be truthful...look at my General health? im unlikely to meet their criteria, and if I tried it would take years, without doing silly risky things which might make the health worse...well I'm allready nearly 28

I respect all of the branches of the military. As some of you may know I'm in the AF and have been for going on 11 years, but hindsight being 20/20 and if I weren't married. You can bet your bottom dollar I would have joined the Navy. You REALLY get to see the world with those guys, though the names being displayed on the butt really throws me for a loop. Other than that though I enjoy the new weapon technology I get to see first hand with the AF and I'm pretty sure the Navy is the same in that respect.

GO NAVY!!!!My father is a Vietnam Vet aboard the USS BUCK!! My brother is currently deployed in Iraq as a MA in the Navy..3 of my uncles and a few cousins are Navy.. My ex*hubby is still in the Navy.. Although I did ROTC with the ARMY..

Although I love them all my heart is with ARMY! My brother is retired Special Forces, I have 3 nephews in the ARMY. One is in pilot school now, one came home from Iraq last November and and one left for Iraq last week! I salute you all and thank you from the bottom of my heart for who you are and what you do!!!

Both my grandfather and grandmother (WAC) were in the Army during WW2. My dad served in Vietnam in the Army. And I served in the ANG as a Combat Medic. The first troops were being sent to Iraq (the second time) a few weeks before I graduated from AIT.

I absolutely loved being full time during training, basic was so much fun, even though I broke my heel during the first week and the Med Sgt. that saw me was a complete ahole. But being in the NG sucked. I really wanted to go full time Army but I had responsiblities back home I couldn't foist off on anyone else.

I love the Army, but have seriously contemplated going Navy if I went back in. And I really wanted to go Marines at first but they didn't have a reserve unit in the area I lived that had jobs women are allowed to do. But most likely I would go Army again, if I were to re-enlist, because then I would have a better chance of being deployed. I don't understand why people don't join because they are afraid they will have to actually fight. Hello, it's the military, that's kind of the point. But anyway, I'm rambling.

And yes you do often get treated like crap in the military by both by upper ranks and by civilian contract employees But there are also some absolutely freaking awesome NCO's and CO's that take care of you and look out for you as well as some wonderful civilians who do the same. Just like you'll find anywhere in life I guess.
