What is it with these young guys not being able to make weight? Too much partying, or is there a serious problem, like building up too much weight and having to cut it too fast?

What do you guys think it is?

I guess this means that Rumble will be Matt's next opponent.

That's ridiculous - that would mean Matt actually gets advance notice of who he's fighting

O, I'm not saying that's who Matt will be scheduled to fight, I'm just saying that when _________ pulls out of the fight 1 day early due to a eyelash injury, Rumble's the man who'll step in & ben uable to cut those last few 10 lbs.

Dudes are trying to cut down too far that is the problem.

Weight cutting has become such a huge part of the sport guys are relying on being smaller instead of being better.

This captures the problem to a large extent. If Johnson really is walking around at a fairly solid 220, cutting to 170 is not only unrealistic on a consistent basis (as you age, you put on more mass naturally) but also unhealthy. However, I don't think this is going away - bigger doesn't necessarily equal better, but in a matchup of equal fighters in terms of skill, being bigger/stronger helps quite a bit. The only real solution, imo, is tougher financial/ranking penalties for fighters who miss weight - put the incentive on giuys to make it, or hit them where it hurts.

Exactly, but guys who are relying on being bigger are never going to be greats in the sport.

They're too big for the weight class.
Its insane, if Rumble is cutting down and only making it to 176,
then he weights more than 185 and needs to fight at MW where he belongs.
