Anthony Johnson Misses Weight By 5 Pounds!
Although the event will go on as planned, three fighters failed to make their originally contracted weights. Main-card fighter Anthony Johnson, who is rumored to have had a terrible time cutting weight, weighed 176 pounds, five pounds over the 171-pound limit.
UFC 104, which takes place Saturday at the Staples Center, features a main event between UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and challenger Mauricio "Shoguna" Rua and a co-headliner between heavyweight contenders Cain Velasquez and Ben Rothwell. All four fighters easily made weight, including Machida, who weighed a slim 202.5 pounds.
The same can't be said for Johnson, though. According to event emcee Joe Rogan, Johnson was unable to drop any further weight, and his camp had already notified Yoshida of the problem. The welterweights agreed to fight at 176 pounds (though Yoshida easily made the 171-pound limit by weighing 170 pounds) with Johnson surrendering 20 percent of his purse to his opponent.
Two other main-card fighters failed to make weight, albeit just slightly. Josh Neer (156.5) and Gleison Tibau (157) both missed the 156-pound limit but agreed to fight at their current weights.
