Has anyone ever had to get one, or gotten one for any reason? I had a coworker recommend them, spouting (no pun intended) some facts about impacted fecies in the average colon and health risks associated with this being left unattended.
Having lost two close relative to colon cancer I wonder if this is something anyone on here would recommend. The whole process sounds very uncomfortable

I've heard that drinking that acai berry juice has pretty much the same effect. I'm not talking about the pills or diet plan scams, I'm just talking about picking up the bottles of juice from the store. I wouldn't necessarily call it a miracle food, but it definitely has a noticeable effect.

I don't know, but i heard that the colon cleansers on the market don't really do the trick ... there was a study done showing people who had the colonic and those went on a cleanse diet than had a colonic, that the waste was roughly the same ... theoretically if you cleanse, very little should come out from the colonic ... i will look for it somewhere .. i usually don't bookmark studies about fecal matter ...

Acai berry juice tastes really good. I drink that. I also drink a pomegranate/blueberry juice that is supposed to help decrease my Alzheimer's risk.
I do not recommend colonics. I would instead recommend a diet high in fiber with tons and tons of water. That will clean you out just as well without someone sticking anything in your exit. I have seen no true medical studies that show colonics decrease colon cancer risks. I have seen multiple studies proving that high fiber diets with good hydration decreases it. Get regular screenings as recommended by your doctor and when they give you the stuff to drink the night before your colonoscopy, drink it like they tell you to. It's miserable but necessary to get good, clean pictures. ~Amy |

Well, what exactly is "that stuff"? Is it like Metamucil? My dad had a hemorrhoid operation when I was a little kid and he drank Metamucil for years after that.

The stuff that a dr would give you before a colonoscopy is Fleet Phospho-Soda. You can buy it from any drug store for about $3. the directions say take a couple tablespoons but the dr will say to really clean yourself out you are suppose to drink the whole thing at once.
I agree it doesn't taste like anything but nasty. Just for the record no hemroids here. |
