Default Study: Organic Food Not Healthier

http://www.reuters.com/article/scien...56S3ZJ20090729

Organic food has no nutritional or health benefits over ordinary food, according to a major study published Wednesday.

Researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine said consumers were paying higher prices for organic food because of its perceived health benefits, creating a global organic market worth an estimated $48 billion in 2007.

A systematic review of 162 scientific papers published in the scientific literature over the last 50 years, however, found there was no significant difference.

"A small number of differences in nutrient content were found to exist between organically and conventionally produced foodstuffs, but these are unlikely to be of any public health relevance," said Alan Dangour, one of the report's authors.

"Our review indicates that there is currently no evidence to support the selection of organically over conventionally produced foods on the basis of nutritional superiority."

Well, this study was done in London.

England doesn't allow the same chemicals in their food that the US does.
So, sort of irrelevant to us here in the states.

Different countries have different laws on what we can do to our food.
We allow over 3000 food additives.

It is difficult to tell from this news story if they considered the effect of chemicals (pesticides). As best I can tell, they were just comparing the level of vitamins, minerals and such.

yea, according to the article they were simply comparing nutrient values.

obviously organic food isn't going to have more nutrients than inorganic food in alot of cases. they are able to pump nutrients into inorganic food easily.

but while inorganic food may have the same amount of nutrients.... inorganic food also contains thousands of chemicals which are not good for your body, simple as that.
