Over the past couple of years, the UFC has entertained the possibility of having a show on Hawaii. Unfortunately, due to the large tax (estimated to be about 8%), the UFC has decided not to have a card there.

However, that is about to change.

“We fixed the thing in Hawaii,” said Dana White. “We’re going to go to Hawaii. They had that crazy f’n tax going on.”

What should make the UFC’s potential trip to Hawaii intriguing to the non-Hawaiian resident is the building that will host it.

“We’re going to go to Hawaii, and the only place we can do it is in the Aloha Bowl,” said White. “All the other venues are too small.”

The capacity of the Aloha Bowl for UFC event will be in excess of 50,000. With BJ Penn the likely headliner, they have a chance to get near the capacity for the show. In the past, the UFC stated that they to do not want to run large arenas because it will take away from the “UFC experience”, but in Hawaii, they do not have other serious options.

This would be a dream come true for B.J. Penn fans. Who would you like to see him fight in front of 50,000 fans? Rematch with GSP following the grease accusations? How about Hughes-Penn III?

Hughes, GSP, Diego.

Sanchez, Guida or Edgar would be fun fights to watch.

I'll pick Diego as I'd love to see BJ whup his ass if BJ beats KenFlo.

If this event happens and has 50,000 seats, I think it has to have an exceptional opponent for B.J. Penn. Penn would be the selling point for an Hawaii event. It could be the "Thrilla in Manila" for MMA. I have nothing against Frankie Edgar or Guida; however, this fight would require a big name. There is some "bad blood" between Penn and GSP, so I think that could be an excellent seller for the UFC. I think I have seen quotes from Penn that he is interested in fighting Mr. Hughes again because of the beatdown he received in the last fight. Am I remembering correctly, that there was talk at one point of a Penn vs. Anderson Silva fight? The only problem with these fights is that if Penn lost the fight, there might be a riot in the stands! Perhaps, the UFC might take an opposite tack and give Penn an easy fight to almost guarantee a victory in front of such a huge partisan crowd.
