Default BLOG: Lincoln College Distinguished Young Alumni Award

From Matt's blog:

Quote:
Once again had another good training week and I feel very healthy. Training is going great, but I'll talk more about that next week.

Last Saturday, I went up to Lincoln College to receive the Distinguished Young Alumni Award. I had a great time and got to spend the day with my buddy Dave Klemm. Dave was my wrestling coach when I went to school there and he is still the wrestling coach along with being the athletic director for the college. Here're some pictures from Saturday and the video of my acceptance speech:

While I was in coach's office, he asked if I had ever seen the following video. Well I hadn't, but I have heard the story. From the 1972 Munich Olympics, the big guy is Chris Taylor, a 420-pound American wrestler, and the "little" guy is Wilfried Dietrich, from West Germany. During the weigh-ins, Dietrich went up to Taylor and playfully put his arms around him. It looked like he was just kidding around for the cameras, but he was actually trying to see if he could even lock his hands around Taylor. Well, the video tells the story, one of the greatest throws that I've ever seen (the video is in German, by the way):

Here's a picture of that throw, pretty amazing:

Also, in case anyone is wondering, the radio interview was for the college radio station WLNX.

Tsk, tsk, Matt: wearing a t-shirt to an award ceremony!!!

If anyone deserve a "young achievement" award, it's you: a 9x world champ by the age of 32!!!

O, & nice to see you're not the only All-American Lincoln College Alum in the HIT Squad!!

You're not German & he's not 420lbs.

Maybe if I went completely sedentary for a few years then Melissa could pull it off!

O, cool!

(That explains the mass consumption of various wines!)

Congratulations on this latest award Matt. I really liked your speech especially the "jigsaw" part acknowledging those who've been a part of this amazing journey of yours.

As to the "throw" , WOW! The little guy (in the picture) looks like he's literally on his tippy toes. That's pretty amazing.

It looks like the smaller guy is about to get crushed with his knees bent beneath him. Amazing.
