To be fair, Chan is also a martial artist.

He has the old school mentality "The elite do not compete" this was a famous saying of Bruce Lee and a lot of the old school think this way. It was self defense only bottom line.

That is an interesting opinion coming from a martial artist.

Me personally, I got into martial arts because my dad wanted us to be able to defend ourselves,
and probably to burn off energy.

But if you're forcing me to defend myself in a real life situation I am certainly not helping you up after I knock you down.

Good point, but those are movies.

His comments are speaking about fighting in competition.

People don't have to agree with him, and yes he is an actor, but he is also an accomplished martial artist. Even if his opinion is irrelevant, it is still noteworthy.
