Default Brendan Shaub's TUF 10 Blog ***SPOILERS***

He's writing this for MMA Junkie...
Tough words for Jon Madsen, and insite to some injuries during last nights' fight.

Once again thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

Today in Denver we are dealing with snowstorms, and it's safe to say winter is here. It took me two hours to drive to practice today because of visibility issues. The gym actually closed early due to the weather.

This week has been a bumpy week here at the Grudge Training Center. My friend and training partner, Shane Carwin, had the rug pulled out from under his feet when Brock Lesnar pulled out of fight. Shane has been going hard for six months now. He was initially supposed to fight at UFC 104 against Cain Velasquez and then UFC 106 for Brock. Now, hopefully, it'll be UFC 108.

This is a tough business and nothing is for certain.

I thought the cancellation was interesting for our camp to hear because Shane has had the flu for quite some time and is still training hard.

Coach Greg Jackson was in town this week. Having Greg, Trevor Wittman and Amal Easton coaching at the same time just seems unfair. They are great coaches with incredibly tough practices and together leave no room for mistakes.

This week's episode of "The Ultimate Fighter" really focused on Matt Mitrione and the games he played in the house. When they showed Matt giving Scott Junk a note saying Mike Wessel was scared to fight him, I was surprised to say the least. After the snitching of the match-ups, a lot of guys already wrote Matt off, and I think this was the last straw for most of them.

He really alienated himself from the team, and I think I was literally the only guy who didn't "hate" Matt. I think Matt did a lot of his antics because he didn't know how to deal with the pressure of being in the house. He only had one or two fights before the show, and the stress of fighting in the house led him to play games. They showed a scene of Matt telling me he has voices in his head, and at that time, I was speechless. All I could do was walk away. And yeah, I was a little worried about Matt.

I was glad to see them showing Matt and Jon Madsen getting into it. Everyone was on Matt's side when it came to Jon. Jon was a guy who had to have his way and was really bossy at times. I've got to admit the guy was a prick. (I'll touch on Jon later in the season.)

When Jon told everyone he would slap Matt, it really got to Matt, and he took it to another level. Matt is an emotional guy and has a flare for the dramatics. I think he was looking for a reason any reason to tee off on Jon.

The Wes Sims show and his crazy antics were nonstop. He brought this giant black ninja gi into the house, and his plan was to put on the gi and sneak around the basketball court and dump Matt into the pool. He also brought a stuffed (formerly alive) cat with him, but they wouldn't let it into the house. So once the show was over, they gave it back to him. The ear was broken, and he was pissed.

I could sit and listen to Wes tell his tales for ever, and in a house with no TV, he became our TV. Once Matt started going a little crazy, Wes took his focus off of Lenderman (Zak Jensen) and started to pick on Matt. I was certain he was going to make one of these two guys crack.

Once the match-ups were announced, I definitely thought Team Rashad had a good chance to lose control. Their two toughest guys were left, according to the coaches. Scott Junk was a guy who developed a lot of hype while in the house. Everyone was talking about how much of a beast he was in practice and how he had K-1 experience. He was the captain of Team Rampage, and they were really expecting him to destroy Matt. After watching the fight for a second time, I still didn't see why Dana White thought this was such a good fight. It was cool at first when they exchanged for a little bit, but then they both gassed out badly.

If either fighter had been able to keep up that pace, it would have been an epic battle. The second round could go down as one of the sloppiest rounds in modern MMA's history. Matt displayed the power we all knew he had in his hands and the instability we all knew he had by not keeping his hands up.

I know Scott wanted a third round, but I don't think that would have been good since they were both exhausted. They both had plenty of opportunities to finish the fight, and truth be told, neither one had a third round left in the gas tank. Matt let his inexperience dictate the fight's pace.

I think Scott is a god fighter who just needs to translate his practice attitude and training into the actual fight. Once Scott can do that, he will be a force to be reckoned with for sure. One thing that did happen to Junk before the fight was while in the process of warming up he injured his Achilles' heel bad, which I think limited his movement.

Also, in the fight, if you look closely, Scott's eyelid is inside out. He accidentally caught a finger from Matt. He lost almost all his eye sight after this, which happened in the first minute of the fight. He ended up having a torn retina.

Matt didn't get out of the fight uninjured either. He got rocked, and he thought he had some serious brain damage. After knowing Matt and his antics before, I knew it would just get worse.

Let the games begin!
