Did you get sweet potatoes or yams? In the U.S., what we call "sweet potatoes" are actually "yams". I wonder if it's the same in Britain. Sweet potatoes are FAR more tasty than yams!

Dave the thig with potatoes as well as rice and pasta is that they are complex carbs. There are also simple carbs.
You need to have a balance of carbs in your diet, the same as anything its about having them in moderation. .

Carbohydrates provide your body with its basic fuel. Your body thinks about carbohydrates like a car engine thinks about petrol.

Simple carbs are basicially those that digest quickly and are absorbed into your bloodstream quickly. They are basically the section that you see when you look at the nutritional values and see sugar under the carb section.
Geberally thing refined sugars.

complex carbs are generally the ones known as starches, they are made up of glucose molecules, so things like grain - so rice, wheat, corn, oats etc and things like potatoes are high in starch. With these your body breaks down the carbs into the glucose before absorbing them

Carbohydrates are an important part of any healthy diet. Eaten regularly, carbs do NOT lead to weight gain, unless (like any food group) they are eaten to excess. After all, eating too much of anything and not burning it off through physical activity will lead to weight gain. That said, weight for weight, carbs provide fewer calories than fat or alcohol. It's also what you add to the carbohydrates that bump up the calories. For example, the margarine or butter we put on the bread and the cream or cheese sauces we add to pasta. So if you need to lose weight, cut down on these added fats, NOT the carbs.

as for the potatoe thing check this out

basically its a web site about sweet 'potatoes' which are not even really potatoes.

Sweet potatoes are the jam! I love them, esp with marshmellows and cinnamon on top. I also will put whipped cream on them too, but yea I'm weird like that.

This week I'm trying a high protein diet and seeing how that works. So far so good, I'm enjoying the meat for sure.

How did your potato escapades go Dave?
