I think if you want to use our roads, schools, and other programs,

No one is arguing that fact, but do you honestly think these farmers are going to pay minimum wage to tax paying Americans? Hell no they aint. I think some jobs no one wants these happen to be them last summer 14 deaths in California were attributed to these conditions. I don't give a s*it if your white, brown, purple, green its not humane and very unethical. I personally have been sending letters to congressman in California asking that these farm owners have accountability for cheating the system out of paying taxes by hiring illegals and on the humanitarian side for basically having slaves in this day and age. Sometimes it sickens me how its all about the politics, but never the care of a human being. Totally sickening and hypocritical.

My point is, if we didn't have people working for under min wage,
they would have no choice.

I don't know why you're going off about working conditions in fields,
they are working illegally, so have no protection from the state for water,
shade, breaks, etc... If they refused to work for that money, and in those conditions, it wouldn't happen.
If they were working legally, labor and industries would force them to give the workers fair working conditions. You want to work and not pay taxes,
then you're going to have to deal with a little bit of BS.You can't expect the government to protect you, when you are paying for it, can you?

But to be honest no, I don't really care about people who CHOOSE to work for almost nothing, and not pay taxes. I have a hard time doing that,
Esp in California, where they are going to cut 40 billion dollars out of the state budget this year because the number of illegal immigrants PASSED the number of legal citizens.

Sorry Melis but I'm going to have to disagree with you on this and lean more towards what Atom is saying. Certain benefits come at a cost and it is far from slavery because these people do have a choice to leave. They are not shackled at the end of the day and locked in the barn.

They are cheating our system and are just as guilty as the farmers themselves.

Just to throw in my .02. Whenever an illegal buys something, they pay taxes. Many who have a forged social security card and use it to get a job, pay taxes and won't get anything in return if/when they "retire."

There are legal jobs out there where the minimum wage doesn't have to be paid if you work for tips. A waitress is one of them. Off hand I don't know the other occupations where this the norm.

You're right and wrong.
They pay sales tax.

The largest portion of tax is what comes out of a paycheck,
not the state sales tax that we pay when we buy something.
Also, not every state even has sales tax.

Also, I was unaware of jobs that get under min wage,
because they don't do that in this state, here even a waitress get min + tips.
And our min is like 8.25.
