It has to be said, I dont wholly aggree with the theology being portrayed in the below narrative...
Thursday this week is ascension day, 40 days after Easter Christ ascends to heaven. It is one of the very greatest feasts of the Christian Year, but most of us find it very difficult to get to grips with. At Christmas there is a baby and we can understand that. At Easter, death and ressurection, hard, certainly, but the message is clear. At Pentecost the bible goes out of its way to tell us its like being drunk at 9am or like having flames coming out of your head. But Ascension, thats much more difficult. The heart of it, however, is a core piece of faith. However much St Luke is struggling to put it into language that we can understand, Luke is telling us that the risen, though still wounded body of Christ is part of the Life of GOD. That at the Father Heart of GOD is a wounded human being who bleeds for love of our love. Which is the most Extraordinary thing possible and give us the confidence to know that GOD is alive and active in the rough stuff of our human being.
Oh how glorious and resplendent, fragile body, shalt thou be, when endued with so much beauty, full of health, and strong, and free, full of vigour, and of pleasure that shall last eternally.
(Different hymn, same tune LOL)
