Default Rory MacDonald nearly pulled out of UFC 170 after injury while cutting an avocado

LAS VEGAS -- If you thought it was bad when Rashad Evans had to drop out of his UFC 170 fight with Daniel Cormier after suffering a knee injury, consider this: Rory MacDonald was almost TKO'd by an avocado last week.

Sometime last week, the Tri Star welterweight contender gave himself a deep cut in his left hand while cutting an avocado at home, prompting a trip to the emergency room and making him worry he'd have to drop out of his UFC 170 fight against Demian Maia.

"I stabbed myself," MacDonald said at the post-fight press conference at Mandalay Bay. "It was pretty embarrassing, when it happened I was so embarrassed. I couldn't believe, I thought that I was going to have to pull out of the fight because I easily could have hit tendon or something."

As it turned out, MacDonald didn't do any major damage. And not only was he able to continue with the fight, but he picked up a $50,000 Fight of the Night bonus for his barnburner of a victory over Maia.

"I went to the emergency room and got stitched up," MacDonald said. "Everything is fine, everything is intact. It went in really far, I didn't sever anything important, so I stitched it up, I fought, and everything is cool."
