True story:

When my kids were around 3-5 years old a curse word from mom really got their attention followed by snickering.

My youngest was around 3 or 4 and if he didn't get a gift related to Thomas the Train then he wasn't very grateful. So one day my friend and her daughter were coming over to exchange gifts. Before they got there I was attempting to explain to my boys to be grateful no matter what the gift was; it was the thought that counts. Well they were playing and didn't seem to be paying attention. This bothered me a little as I was trying to be a good mommy and teach them a valuable lesson. Finally exasperated, I said, "Okay, look, I don't care if it's dog shyte! You say, "Thank you and Merry Christmas!" Both my boys stopped what they were doing and and then started giggling.


But it kinda back fired on me. After he opened his gift and dutifully told my friend, "Thank you and Merry Christmas!" he looked at me and said, "Well at least it isn't a dog turd."

That was fun explaining to my friend.

Still to this day, some 4-5 years later, when my kids get a gift they say "Thank you and Merry Christmas!" then look at me and giggle. lol.
