Its very simple...everyone needs to do their job properly.

The UFC need to make good cards, and have contingency plans for this type of situation

Jon Jones needs to do what he employers ask, and what we, the paying public, expect.

Greg Jackson needs to STFU and do his best, regardless of time constraints, to put Jones in the best position for the fight.

If just one of those had done their job, none of this would have happened. All failed, and the UFC need to learn from this, and need to change to make this work.

They need to make clear that fighters who get injured, however accidental will be fined, that way they can be sure each injury is legitamate, and the fighters will start taking more care of themselves. They need to have it written into the contracts that you do what your told in terms of who you fight, OR you get fined, OR if you are the Champion you get stripped of the title.

Jon Jones illustrates how young fighters with lots of hype and fame are messed around by big institutions. These guys need to grow up and mature fast and realize that work place politics is going on around them. They need to be clued into how a champion should behave, and what is expected of them. They need to have the guts to face these sort of difficult circumstances.

Fight Camps, in particular Jacksons need to remember there is a ballence to be struck between competition and entertainment. IF they want to go for mere competition, they may have to understand that people wont like their fighters, and slowly, those fighters will be downgraded and less well liked, and that will eventually reflect back on them. The good news with this is that the prominance of individual Ludus are really fleeting. Ten years from now, I doubt Jacksons will be the big camp it is today. Its members will have passed on to greatness and the ball will be in some other camp for a stay.

2) No. Its basic retail...its a bloody business, and a bloody career...if you get paid to do a job you should bloody do the job. This isnt about other fighters, its about the man and the company.

What do you think refusing Dana White is going to do to your career?? have you not realized that he can hold a grudge forever...he will move, im telling you right now, to oust Jones...and when Jones is felled, DONT expect him to get a rematch...If Greg Jackson pushes Dana White much further White will move...trust me...Jackson is only safe because of GSP whose been out so long people dont even know if he will win his return fight...Golden boy loooses his head, Ludus will find that White moves to sideswipe anyone connected to the fight camp. Remember Jon Fitch and the AKA saga? Remember Patrick Miletich and the IFL anger that tried to split MFS up by organising events on the same day? Thats politics.

This isnt about thinking of others...its about doing what you can to save yourself, and in the long term, to turn down a fight as a Champion, causing the distruction of the card will have done you FAR more damage then to looose a close bloody decision and get an instant rematch.

So your defeated by your own argument if you take time to think about the implications of what saying No has done...its damaged him more then a loss. We are the shareholders, and if we are not happy your stock will drop. Forums all over the internet are overwhelmingly against Jon Jones on this one...wow gauged that one well didnt he

The fans who've paid for tickets, airfare, etc...don't care about Jon Jones' contract, they care they just lost a lot of money and they see him as the reason. He's been very short-sighted with this decision.

The reason that the UFC exists, and that Jon Jones has a contract at all is because of fans, paying fans...its not right to bite the hands that feed you in this economic climate.

The story is conflicting, but I would assume that it was that Silva would fight someone at LHW as he would likely not make MW in time. Jones obviously wouldn't take this so it would have to be someone else. Guess they could have done Silva/Sonnen 3.

Thank Goodness Michelle came in here and started making sense of all this! I completely agree! Yeah, Matt took some fights on really short notice, he's a stand up guy and all that and I love him for it. But those fights put L's on his record!

I do not fault Jones in the least for refusing this fight. I don't think for a second that Sonnen would have won-but still! You're training for a specific fighter and they want to change the game 8 days prior to the fight--and YOUR title's on the line? AND they want to give you a guy who hasn't earned a title shot by FAR? It's MMA. We all know ANYBODY can get caught--to get caught by Chael Sonnen for YOUR title when you trained for 8 days? No way.

All this talk about integrity is nauseating. If you think Jones has no integrity because he didn't take this fight, you need to do some research on the meaning of the word. And if you think Dana White is going to hold a grudge on this--you're mistaken. JBJ buts butts in the seats and PPV's on TV's. Let's get real. THAT is Dana White's bottom line. Even now, when people are hating on JBJ, they'll tune in hoping to see him get beaten. It's a win/win.

And if it's not acceptable to turn down a fight with a last minute replacement on next to no notice, why do the fighters have that option? If you don't want them to be able to refuse, UFC, then put that in the contracts. Otherwise, get over it. Don't offer someone the "option" and then get all bent when they take it.

As for Chael "stepping up", what a joke! Really? He accepted a fight he's been begging for. Was handed a title shot on a silver platter that he didn't even START to ear. Yep, he's quite a guy!
