1.5 million buys, $94 million generated. I expected a minimum 1.5, more along the lines of 1.8 with that stacked undercard!

Still, pretty impressive numbers!

LAS VEGAS -- Once again, "Money" Mayweather came through at the box office.

HBO announced Friday that Floyd Mayweather Jr.'s victory over Miguel Cotto drew 1.5 million pay-per-view buys, bringing in $94 million in revenue.

The figure is second all-time among non-heavyweight pay-per-view fights, behind Mayweather's May 2007 victory over Oscar De La Hoya, which tallied $137 million on 2.5 million buys.

Overall, Saturday's hard-fought unanimous decision win by Mayweather (43-0) ranks as the sixth-largest pay-per-view fight in history.

Though the fight's promoter, Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer, was hoping for more than two million purchases, the result still marks the fourth straight fight that Mayweather has eclipsed the coveted one million mark.

The 35-year-old was guaranteed a record $32 million for the Cotto fight, plus a portion of the revenue earned by HBO, which charged $69.99 for the high-definition broadcast.

Mayweather, who will begin a three-month prison sentence June 1 for assaulting his girlfriend, has been adamant that he deserves a larger share of the purse in a possible mega-fight with Manny Pacquiao.

The Filipino superstar, who will take on undefeated American Timothy Bradley in a June 9 pay-per-view, has maintained the purse should be split evenly.

Most believe the long-sought showdown would set the record for pay-per-view buys. Pacquiao's last fight, a narrow decision over Juan Manuel Marquez, generated 1.45 million purchases.
