Most people who are suicidal are suffering from a mental illness.. When their mind is in that state being selfish is not a thought.

People contemplating suicide ( suicide ideation) definitely can get help they are obviously only thinking so their brain still processes what is right/wrong

They were holding some sort of football event in Houston yesterday and everybody had nothing but great things to say about the guy both professionally and personally.

He was obviously loved by many.

I don't know what's going on with these football players who are committing suicide. This has brought up talk again that the NFL needs to do more to look into concussions and the longterm effects on the brain of past and present players. Maybe the family will donate his brain for research to see if his brain suffered from repetitive head trauma.

I agree, Bonnie; however, this man had a suicide attempt a few years back when the police were after him on a domestic abuse charge. I'm sure his loved ones must have talked to him at that time. Very sad.

I totally get what you are saying and people do often look at suicide as a selfish act. I was reading some comments from people who've had a family member commit suicide. A lot of them struggle with anger for the person, but they also miss them terribly and still love them. One woman whose mother killed herself after struggling for years with depression at first felt it was selfish of her mom to leave them, but gradually, she began to look past the act and have compassion for her mother's plight, and how she struggled with her depression and the feelings of guilt of what it was doing to her family. I guess every one has to find their own way in coming to grips with it.

Whether Junior's family tried to talk with him after that incident, I don't know, maybe they did and he was able to explain it away as he "fell asleep" and they accepted that and let it drop. Some of his former team mates said when they saw him recently, he seemed fine, "the same ol' Junior".

I read where hours before he died he had texted his ex-wife and their three kids, "I love you." The kids texted back, "Love you too, Dad."

It's just an awful, sad situation.

I agree with you almost 100% in what you have said PTM, but we don't actually know that he tried to kill himself after that domestic dispute. The police concluded it was from a lack of sleep, and he stood by that story. Besides, lets be honest, if you are planning on killing yourself you usually don't do it by driving into a 100 foot drop-off. You typically....well...shoot yourself. Sad but true...

Yes, suicide is very selfish, it haunts the people left behind. But as also said here, Junior wasn't thinking clearly so he obviously couldn't make a rational decision. I felt terrible for him, he must have been so tortured to do away with himself! He must have been in terrible emotional pain (maybe physical too) and he could have been clinically depressed. It is just a tragedy for everyone, his family, friends and fans.

I hope he is at peace with God and that his family can someday find peace with this as well.
