There is a lot he gets wrong. But there is a lot he does right also. Historically he often commits very poor historiography. Sadly he does to history what many many preacher do to the bible. Find a phrase of verse that fits their ideas and proof texts it out of context to justify their belief. Barton did this with a Madison quote on a TBN special. I was screaming at the TV because I knew it was a bold face lie. We as Christian have to be real careful not to do this sorta thing. However the world and science is real good at perpetuating half truths. Look at evolution.

Yeah I read the book the documentary is based on. Sadly they are guilty of the same thing the accuse Barton of. Historians are traditionally conveys of facts and let the readers make their own conclusions. Revisionist historians prefer to make claims and proof text them as they see fit. Barton is a lot more accurate than they guy who wrote the book the clip was taken from. The founders left detailed letters and memoirs and their faith is obvious. Thompson was in the minority and for them to pull him up and make it like he was the voice of reason is poor history and a complete and utter pile of historical horse poo.
