Protein is mostly to prevent catabolism. From what I've read, taking aminos before workout increases blood flow within the muscles, priming anabolic response. This also indicates a greater stimulation of net protein synthesis for protein ingested within 1-hour of the end of your workout.

I usually throw down some cup cakes, a few slices of pizza and a pork roll sandwich. I fart so much, I win every time.

pretty sure one of the guys that shows up at jiujitsu has a pre workout routine of chainsmoking a pack of cigs and then gargelling urine

Default UPDATE

I've been sticking to peanut butter and either bread (bagels) or celery and carrots or apple. all have been successful. the apple and veggies I prefer because the bread can take longer to process and sometimes I feel little barfy during class.
So far a really liek training at an actual fight gym. guys are prepping for some fights coming up so it's fun to watch and learn and get into shape.
