Five by Five: The UFC is 'probably' going to implement five-round main event non-title fights

According to UFC President Dana White at yesterday's UFC 129 press conference:

"We've talked about it before. There have been fights that we were watching that have been three-round fights like 'Damn, this should have been a five-round fight. It's the main event and it should have been five.' Yes, we can do it. we can make a main event a five-round fight and we're probably going to start doing that."
Five-round main event non-title fights may go a long way in proving who the better fighter is, but does a championship bout then lose some of its luster if there's nothing to distinguish it (besides the title) from a standard main event? Let's hear your opinion on the last three-rounder that should have gone five and then cast your vote in the poll below.

I say.. yes to 5 round fights.. all around.. not just the "main event"...

Why?? Cause some of my favorite fighters aren't in the main events right now.. and I would love to see full shows more often..

The Title is distinguishing enough, I think. Besides, Main Event status usually comes with a high pay grade and better sponsorships. I imagine if there is an increase for 5 round fights as it can mean longer TV exposure for a brand. It's better for the fighters.

I agree, the belt is enough distinguishment. It also helps out the eventual title contender in a sense that it's not going to his first five round fight (presuming he's been in a main event before.)

I wonder if this would this apply to all UFC events or just PPVs. I bring this up because Jon Jones has been in the main event on two occasions, but it wasn't on a large PPV card(UFC Live 1/2).

Exactly... I can't think of any other championships in any sport that have different rules/time limits etc. NFL, MLB, NBA, Boxing etc..... Personally I would be more of a fan of making title shots 3 rounds to keep the action up.

Sooner or later the UFC will have to institute some sort of a "shot clock" mentality or it will lose the casual fans. And like it or not I think the real money in ALL sports comes from the casual fan more than the die hards.

I've thought the same thing for a long time. 5 rounds for all fights, period.
