"I am not really sure what to make of this proposal, but it seems like a bad sign for all combative sports, not just MMA, and may shed some light on the Governor's view of the 'economics' of these sports in New York in general... Governor Cuomo's Executive Budget makes clear, he is tackling a $10 Billion dollar budget deficit and MMA with an estimated $23 million in 'economic impact' is simply not compelling. Zuffa has pumped $74,600 into Cuomo's campaign and hoped the Democrat would work towards approving MMA in the state. It seems that Zuffa's money has fallen on deaf ears, and that MMA will still be at least another year away from New York.

Yes, because Democrats are busy spending our money instead of trying to find a way to pay off debt. Instead of realizing that 23 million dollars is a LOT of money, they look at it like, "eh, that's nothing." Seriously, when is 23 million dollars not compelling?

He could have refused it, or even told them to donate it towards a favorite charity of his which would been a great pr move. But Mark (Llama) touched on something I thought of too...that he could just be letting some time pass before pushing for mma. Not that that will let him off the hook with some, it will still look like he took contributions for a favor if he does end up doing that. Time will tell...

I just think they ought to stop with the "brutality and violence" excuse already. Just say you don't like the sport and leave it at that.
