It was definitely entertaining for the fans back in the day, but I don't really think that is very fair for the fighters. Especially nowadays with the level of competition being so much higher. For instance, imagine Forrest Griffin having to fight Rashad, Shogun, and Machida all in the same night. Sounds appealing to fans, but I doubt that's appealing to Forrest.
Maybe if they did it with a group of b-level guys and used shortened rounds that could work out. They could do the shortened fights in between bigger marquee fights, and then offer the winner a shot at an eliminator fight, or something along those lines.
