What is Matt's fight day routine?

My fight day routine involves shopping for snacks for during the fight and taking a nap so I can actually stay awake to enjoy it!

But what does Matt do?

From the fights I've gone to, he'll spend most of the day just relaxing, usually playing cards or watching TV in the hotel. He won't leave his room unless he has to do something for the UFC, but then it's usually straight there and straight back. He'll take a nap sometime in the afternoon, someone will order a meal for him from room service, and then it's just waiting around until it's time to go the arena.

Thanks Nate!!!!! Then at the arena he does his warm up and everything? What does he eat? Does he carb load like my sister does before a marathon? Does he eat light?

Did he train at all yesterday? Or does he have a recovery period a few days before the fight?

Well MY fight day routine is right on target! Just woke up from a nap and now I'm headed to the store to get some goodies!

Yes, thanks, Nate, it's nice to know Matt's routine. I've been wearing my Team Hughes shirt since yesterday, I have butterflies and feel slightly sick with pre-fight anxiety. Sounds like Matt is more calm than a lot of us fans!

He posted all of this once somewhere... maybe in a blog... I seem to remember chicken being involved... he eats a chicken breast or a salad with chicken in it for his prefight meal? Something like that anyway...........

Nate is pretty close! We have fun playing cards, sometimes he takes a nap. The night before the fight he's carb loading and eating chicken sandwiches. The day of, he's more like nibbling on various things. A light breakfast, and maybe a turkey sandwich at times. Most of the time some kind of a club sandwich (Chicken or Turkey).

The week of, we are also big fans of movies and/or local sporting events (depending on the city because if there are too many UFC fans, its hard to relax at big public events). This week we saw Inception, Dinner for Schmucks, and The Other Guys. All in all, a relaxing week with lots of smiles and laughter.
