Think America Is The Greatest Country In The World?

I feel that many people here think that the United States of America is the greatest country in the world.

I for one consider myself a patriot and I love this country and know that it is the greatest nation in the world.

I have been to the Middle East, Asia, all over Europe and across North and South America, in total I've visited, worked and lived in over a dozen countries. I have experienced several types of culture, people, religions, music, entertainment, societies, food, languages and governments and have concluded that America has the best system in the world.

My question to everyone on this board: Do you think America is the greatest country in the world and what other countries have you lived in?

I think this could bring a unique discussion about all topics that are represented in these forums.

I think this is gonna get interesting with the boys from the loft.
I fully believe America is the greatest.

What other countries did you like or not like, or what aspects did you like or not like from those countries?

For example, a big buzz word right now is "Socialism" and it seems some people don't have a full grasp of what that word means and some think it's synonymous with Fascism, Nazism, Communism, etc. but having lived in Bolivia and Denmark, both countries with socialist aspects (and on either end of the socialist spectrum), you realize what a general term that word is, and you see how that system of government can fail and how it can be extremely successful.

I was born in Spain and I've been to Canada for a hockey tournament. Other than that, I really only know about USA.

As far as the "Greatest Country" I think that would depend on your context. Greatest in what aspect? I'm willing to believe that other countries may have us beat in some areas. For example, Japan might be technologically advanced. Australia might have better waves to surf. Mexico might have warmer beaches. Brazil might have better jiu jitsu teams.

Overall though, I think we're a great nation with a lot to be proud of. I also know there are a lot of ways we can improve.

well i lived in Vancouver for a few years and that city is made up of people from all over the world so that must make Canada the best country in the world then as well.

I have been all over the USA and last time i totaled it up it was something like 42 different states and almost every where i went i found the people to be very friendly and your country to be very beautiful and you guys should be very proud,but in my opinion Canada is better....not by a huge difference but by a little.

there are good things and bad things about the USA just like there is good things and bad things about Canada....i think Canada is better because i live here just the same as you think the USA is better because you live there.

why would anyone think any differently ?

The reason that Socialism, Communism, Fascism, Nazism, etc. belong on the same end of the spectrum is that they are all forms of large, powerful governments. Monarchies would fall into that same category. The idea that the government is the "soul" of the nation and the center of power and the people are simply subjects of the government.

The extreme of this would be Totalitarianism, which is a government that not only seeks to control every action of its people, but it seeks to control their every thought as well. The frightening thing is that we are steadily moving in that direction with political correctness and the concepts of "hate speech" and "thought crimes."

What made America different, before the Progressive movement started to take over, was that the power rested in the hands of the people and the government was a servant of the people.

As Thomas Jefferson put it, "When the people fear their government, there is tyranny; when the government fears the people, there is liberty."

Unfortunately, our balance of power is shifting in this country as people are handing over way too much power to the federal government.

Germany (lived there for 2 years)
South Korea (1 year)
Bosnia (3.5 months)
Croatia (3.5 months)
Hungary (stayed for about 4 weeks total)
Mexico (a couple of weeks total)
England (a few days)
Austria (one weekend)
Ireland (a few hours)

Is the United States the greatest country in the world? YES!
